ASBESTOS CORD SHAON

General Information and Safety

SHAON stands for general purpose asbestos cord; it consists of chrysotile asbestos fibers mixed with cotton and other chemical fibers. 

It is used for thermal insulation of thermal aggregates. 

Chrysotile asbestos is used for the production of cords – a special type that is practically harmless in low concentrations. 

Poisoning with asbestos dust is possible only with prolonged close contact with it. 

A general-purpose asbestos cord is a product made by twisting an asbestos yarn around a core made of asbestos roving. 

Chrysotile (white) asbestos, which is the main component for the production of SHAON, does not pose a health threat under controlled use. 

Even if it enters the body, its fibers dissolve and are excreted within a few days. 

Operating Conditions and Technical Characteristics

Asbestos cords SHAON are used as a heat-resistant, thermal insulating, and sealing material for stationary parts of machines, apparatuses, and pipelines at surface temperatures up to +400°C. 

Asbestos cords SHAON are used as a heat-resistant, thermal insulating, and sealing material for stationary parts, for thermal insulation and sealing of joints in thermal aggregates and heat-conducting systems, in working environments of gas, steam, and water at a pressure of 0.1 MPa (1.0 kgf/cm²) and surface temperatures up to +400°C; furthermore, the asbestos cord increases the vibration resistance of joints.

Diameter: from 2 to 32 mm. 

Guaranteed storage life: 10 years from the date of manufacture.

Key Advantages

Practical use of asbestos cords provides two possible options: 

reliable sealing of joints operating under high and extreme temperature conditions; 

preventing the spread of fire and increasing the fire safety of building and other structures. 

The asbestos cord has received its wide distribution in construction and other fields due to the following advantages:

the material is immune to temperature fluctuations of the ambient and working environment. Even with significant heating, it retains its structure and physical-technical characteristics; 

ability to work in conditions of high humidity. Natural mineral fibers do not absorb moisture and do not swell, which allows the asbestos cord to maintain its performance properties even in high humidity.
